Did I mention that I recently had the pleasure of attending a keynote address delivered by the amazing David Tutera at the Event Solutions Idea Factory in Las Vegas? I knowway to lead with the big stuffbut seriouslyLOVED it! {especially from my front row vantage point- Thank you JDK!}
He was gracious, inspiring, awesome, intelligent and full of event wisdom that he openly shared with the thousands of attendees.

During Davids book signing later that day, I asked if he would be willing to dish a bit for the WeddingAces readers regarding some of his exciting new products, and of course the new season of My Fair Weddingand he graciously agreed.

The name David Tutera has become so synonymous with sumptuous weddings filled with elegance, stunning florals, sweeping bridal gowns and all the key elements that brides dream of. Building an event planning business at age 19, with a loan from his grandfather, David Tutera, Inc. has now become a full service event and wedding planning empire with a reputation for crafting one-of-a-kind occasions for his clients.
Q. At your Event Solutions appearance you credited your parents as major catalysts in your successes. In what way do you feel they’ve most influenced you and your path?
A. As I said at the conference, my parents’ greatest contribution was teaching me to never to say no. I wouldn’t be where I am today if it weren’t for ambition, my parents’ encouragement, and a little bit of faith and luck.
Q. You also noted that once you create a design, you move on from it…not wanting to become repetitive…but is there a trend that you really enjoy in the wedding market today that you hope stays around for awhile?
A. Ironically, my favorite trend right now in the market is change! I love that brides are stepping out of the box a little bit and starting to migrate away from the typical “wedding layout”. They’re forgoing your typical elements and starting to get a little more creative, incorporating their personality as a couple into the wedding. It’s much more interesting!

In 2008, WE Television put David Tutera in place to host a new show, My Fair Wedding. Each episode features a bride with strong, and often questionable, ideas about how her wedding should be. David steps in three weeks before the wedding day to work with the bride to steer her away from a wedding disaster, often facing opposition from the brides, but in the end, his vision wins out and the brides enjoy the wedding of their dreams.
The first two seasons of My Fair Wedding were filmed in New York, then the show went on the roadfor the new season currently in production, David is creating weddings in California and will finish the season in New York.
Q. When you share such momentously personal experiences with your television brides do they become part of your life landscape?
A. Of course! My time with each bride on My Fair Wedding is very intimate and personable. I keep in touch with many of the brides. In fact, I saw Kim and Eddie (Breast Cancer Bride) this past weekend in DC at the Prevent Cancer Foundation’s Annual Cancer Ball. The couples on this show are wonderful and have personally and truly impacted my life. I love keeping in touch with them.
Q. What was the most outrageous experience you feel you’ve had to date while taping the show?
A. During this season, our “hearts” bride, Heather, her fiancé, and I went to Knott’s Berry Farm to have a day of fun and rode plenty of roller coasters. I’ve always loved roller coasters but for whatever reason, this one ride in particular was a little faster than expected – after riding it several times, I finally had to stop!
Q. With the upcoming season of My Fair Wedding being filmed predominantly in California what changes do you feel location will have upon your designs and venue choices? (There are so many opulent venues and locales in California!)
A. The venues in the Los Angeles region of California are pretty spectacular. I’m finding more and more that depending on the venue that we use on each episode, my inspiration for the design stems from the venue itself! If you’re working with an incredible space for an event, you should absolutely capitalize on its grandeur and base your décor elements on what works best as opposed to creating a design first and trying to make it fit.
You can gather more amazing inspiration from Davids unique and gorgeous designs featured on My Fair Weddings in his new book, and by viewing the show on WE tv on Sunday evenings. {9:00e/8:00c}
