{Bling Nouveau} African, Indian, & Goddess…Oh My!

Like so many other Americans, I was introduced to the work of South African designer – Pieter Erasmus after seeing an asymmetrical gem of a necklace in 2009, adorning the neck of US. First Lady – Michelle Obama.

The sophistication and boldness of Pieter’s style has roots grounded in heritage and high-end luxury: A fusion of culture and craftsmanship.  As a high-end jeweler designer for such names as Givenchy, Erickson Beamon, and Cavalli, Pieter decided to expand his unique talents in a solo venture.  Fortunately for us, that venture led to the creation of St. Erasmus, and has been molded heavily by a fusion aesthetic that’s equal parts bohemian, ethnic and Goddess glam.

Everything in St-Erasmus’ collection demands flawless craftsmanship using a wide range of elements including  swarovski crystals, metallic crochets, floral shapes and multi-dimensional textures.  These ethnic glam pieces are inspired by the details of African diaspora and the boundless emotion of vintage bollywood style.

Every woman wants to pamper her inner goddess, a secret that’s now very publicly celebrated by the collection.

With all the press that Erasmus has been getting, it’s no wonder that major fashion publications such as Harper’s Bazaar are beginning to take note.  Here a few more of my favorite pieces from recent and previous collections.

“Timeless style over disposable fashion” – That’s the driving force behind St. Erasmus.  Now that’s what I call: Nouveau Style.
