Prince William and Kate Middleton have reportedly asked Sir Paul McCartney to sing at their wedding reception. And while we couldn’t think of anyone better to perform for the royal couple’s wedding day, we do have a few song suggestions for the royal wedding “play” and “do-not-play” song list.
5 Songs Sir McCartney Should Sing
“Maybe I’m Amazed”
Some say it’s McCartney’s most romantic love song, and with lyrics like “Maybe I’m amazed at the way you love me all the time” and “Maybe I’m amazed at the way I really need you,” we think it would add to a meaningful evening.
“Love Me Do”
Simple, sweet, and catchy — we think this one would even have the queen bopping in her chair.
“And I Love Her”
It’s another memorable Beatles number that McCartney sang lead on — and the lyrics, “And if you saw my love, You’d love her too,” definitely make us think of Kate.
“My Love”
A post-Beatles love song, Paul wrote this one with his wife Linda. With lyrics like “And when I go away, I know my heart can stay with my love, it’s understood it’s in the hands of my love, and my love does it good,” this one should get the crowd buttered up for a romantic reception.
“Til There Was You”
Okay, the Beatles actually covered this song from the show, The Music Man. But all the better when Paul sings it! The lyrics — “There were bells on a hill, But I never heard them ringing, No I never heard them at all, Till there was you” — remind us of Prince William and Kate’s long-term relationship.
5 Songs Sir McCartney Should NOT sing
“Her Majesty”
This fourteen-second song that includes the words, “Her Majesty’s a pretty nice girl, but she doesn’t have a lot to say,” makes it to the top of our do-not-perform song list for obvious reasons.
“Can’t Buy Me Love”
Let’s be honest, referencing Prince William’s financial setup could be seen as a bit crass.
“She Came In Through the Bathroom Window”
Need we say more?
“You Never Give Me Your Money”
Yeah — “You never give me your money, you only give me your funny paper and in the middle of negotiations you break down”? Probably not gonna make the cut.
“Give Ireland Back to the Irish”
We’re just going to go out on a limb here and say that any reference to Bloody Sunday is a no-no.
