Wedding Gold Coin Inspired

Its that mystic element that is found by a treasure map, at the end of a rainbow, or by eating mass amounts of Willy Wonka chocolate that has a rich influence on fashion and culture.  The almost unattainable, mythical qualities of gold gives it its precious yet powerful value. World Coin Cufflinks has inspired us to research the variety of ways that gold has charmed our weddings with token traditions and bold style. Starting with

1. ENGLANDs well known sixpence tradition that encourages brides to wear a good luck coin in her shoe. Swedens interpretation consists of the brides mother giving her a gold coin to put in her right shoe and her father a silver one for her left shoe.  This is to wish continued prosperity for their daughter.

2. BULGARIAs tradition is where gold coins are braided into the brides hair. These are then untangled and removed by her groom to illustrate his desire and willingness to commit.  A beautiful example of this can be seen at one of  our previously featured Bulgarian Weddings.

3. WALES has a cultural tradition where wedding guests take coins and insert them into the cork of champagne bottles as a celebration memento for the bride and groom. These desserts illustrate a decor that replicates a similar structure of the coin and cork ensemble.

4. IRELAND, just as the bouquet is tossed to guests so is a handful of coins. This Irish Grushie tradition is thought to bring the bride and groom great luck and prosperity.

5.  POLANDs wedding coin tradition is just the opposite.  Instead of glittering the bride and groom with confetti or rice the guest toss coins as the newlyweds exit the ceremony. As one of the first tasks to complete together, the bride and groom must pick up every coin to symbolize their unity.

6. SPAINs coin tradition takes place during the marriage ceremony and after the blessing and exchanging of rings. The groom presents his bride with a token coin to express that from this moment on he willingly shares everything with his bride.  These are often passed down as family heirlooms.

7.  LITHUANIAs coin tradition is actually one of my favorites.  Coins are litteraly poured all over, everyone retrieves them, runs them to a jar, and all while searching for a specific coin that will grant the finder a special dance with the bride.  This tradition originated when a groom carved a promise coin as a symbol of his engagement to his bride. In this Lithuanian love story the grooms love coin given to his bride is lost and only found when wedding guests supportively empty their pockets in search of it.  World Coin Cufflinks has given us a great pairing gift for this tradition where the bride can gift a special coin in return. The coin cuff links not only a great gift for the groom and a wonderful way to showoff your roots, but the perfect heirloom to be passed on to future family grooms.

Everyone have a rich day coined with inspiration!!!
